Removal and Reinstallation of Motor Harness 600EGTO

Removal of Motor Harness

Step 1

Remove nameplate by removing 4 Phillips head screws, one at each corner.

Step 2

Remove the R.A. motor plate located in the lower position. Using a 3mm, 10 cm (6") long "T" handle hex tool, remove each of the two screws that hold the square aluminum plate to the housing. A grounding wire is held in place with a tab on the RA motor mount.

Note: Take care not to drop the screw or washer into the housing.

Step 3

Remove the Dec. motor.

Step 4

Complete wire harness with name plate attached; round ground wire tab shown in foreground. Nameplate should be removed from the harness by removing the two 4-40x1/4" Philips head screws. Please remove the nameplate before shipping so that it is not scratched during transport. Send the motor harness without the nameplate to Astro-Physics or your Astro-Physics dealer, as instructed.

Reinstallation of Motor Harness

Step 1

Before motor installation please note the location of the declination(Dec.) and ...

Step 2

... the location of the Right Ascension (R.A.) spur gear.

Step 3

After repairs to the motor or harness, place both motor assemblies back into the housing starting with the declination motor in the top position.

Note: The R.A. motor is marked R.A. on the underside of the mounting plate and must be put in the lower position with its grounding wire. If not marked, verify the motors by plugging the hand control into the unit and pressing the E or W buttons.

Step 4

Balance the M4x16 socket head cap screw and washer on the tip of the hex tool.

Step 5

Position and fasten in the declination motor. Insert the screw into each of the slotted motor mount holes and engage with the threads below. It is easier to start with the open slotted hole. Do not tighten the screws at this point.

Step 6

Position and fasten in the R.A. motor.

Note: The lower mounting screw will also hold the ground wire tab.

Step 7

After all 4 screws are in place, position the slotted motor mount plate to engage the spur gears in both R.A. and DEC. The R.A. gear is shown here.

Note: DO NOT apply pressure to mesh the gears. Positioning the motor plate to make the gears touch each other is sufficient.

Step 8

Remove the outer sight-hole screws to use the sight-hole if it is helpful. You can see the mesh of the gear through the hole.

Step 9

Fully tighten all 4 screws and manually slew both axes at 1x long enough to completely rotate the spur gears, usually 1 or 2 rotations. If the overload LED does not come on, the installation is a success.

Note: The GTOCP1 control box and GTOCP2 control boxes shipped prior to February 16, 2000, do not have the dual (red-yellow) LED overload warning feature.

Step 10

Remount the cover plate taking care to place wires under the RA motor. This positions them out of sight of the polar alignment scope.
