The 130mm f/6.3 StarFire EDF "Gran Turismo", with optional accessories, sits regally atop a Mach1GTO Mount.

Astro-Physics introduced the prototype of this new triplet apochromatic refractor at the Northeast Astronomy Forum (NEAF) on April 28, 2007. Long-time followers will recall that we offered a 130mm f/6 StarFire EDFS refractor from January 1995 through December 2003. We have designated this new 130mm f/6.3 StarFire EDF as the "Gran Turismo" model to highlight its potential to travel to the four corners of the earth. The triplet lens is the same extraordinary quality that you have come to expect from Astro-Physics with a few new exciting features:

New compact, lightweight tube assembly that can be disassembled into three parts to fit into your carry-on luggage. Machined aluminum covers are provided to close and protect each end of the tube. If the size requirements for carry-on luggage are reduced in the future, the lens with the cell can fit into a smaller bag while you check the remainder of the tube assembly.

Rotating focuser collar will enable you to frame your photos for optimal, artistic composition.

Silky, smooth 2.7" Astro-Physics focuser with a greaseless drawtube and the dual-speed mechanism of the Feather Touch 9:1 Micro. The dual-speed feature is particularly advantageous for critically focusing this fast focal ratio.

Fully retractable felt-lined dewcap slides to its fully extended position and then uses a twist-lock feature to secure it in place.

Latest multi-coating technology that we have used for our 160mm and 140mm StarFires in recent years will provide optimum light transmission.

Our optional, dedicated 2.7" Prime Focus Field Flattener (67PF562) will provide pinpoint images across the field. We also offer CCD adapters to take advantage of the new, larger chips of the STL series(ADA671 and ADA672) and QSI 500 and 600 series (A3512) cameras.

Several accessories have been designed with the Gran Turismo in mind, however they are also appropriate for other instruments of similar size. Please click on the links below for additional information.

12" Sliding Bar for Losmandy D-Series Style Plates (SBD12)is a perfect match for the DOVELM2 and provides an elevated surface so that the focuser knobs and dewcap do not interfere.

Base for Quick Release Bracket, Small Radius (QRBASES-A) provides a better fit for tubes with smaller diameters. It is used in conjunction with the 10 x 60 Baader Planetarium Vario Finder (1060VQ).

4.7" Mounting Rings (47RING).

The Mach1GTO German Equatorial mount is recommended for visual observation or astroimaging. The intuitive GoTo Keypad serves as a full-featured mini-computer or use a Planetarium program on your PC or Mac computer. You can even control the basic functions of mount with your mobile smart device.

This is the case that is currently being shipped with the 130 f/6.3 StarFire EDF Gran Turismo.
Component covers are supplied in their own foam-lined box.

As shown above, the 130 StarFire EDF Gran Turismo can be disassembled to fit into a case for airline transport.
Custom covers are provided for all of the ends to protect the lens and other components. The prototype case shown above was made by Scopeguard.
